2. Joint CSA, CAST-CA (LA) and PUAASC delegation to The Fifth Convention of

Overseas Chinese Scholars in Science and Technology

The Fifth Convention of Overseas Chinese Scholars in Science and Technology

(Guangzhou) will be held in Guangzhou from December 28-30, 2002. Since its

first meeting in 1998, the Guangzhou convention has been an important open

platform for overseas Chinese scholars to introduce their projects and findings

and to meet potential partners and investors. About 1,500 worldwide overseas

Chinese scholars attended the fourth convention in 2001, increasing from 300 in

the first convention. In that meeting, 898 cooperation agreements or contracts

were signed.

The Convention of Overseas Chinese Scholars in Science and Technology

(Guangzhou) are co-organized by Ministry of Education, Ministry of Science and

Technology, Ministry of Personnel, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Guangzhou

City. Being the largest of its kind in China, the convention is aimed at

bringing together projects and professionals of high and new technology at home

and abroad. To facilitate the attending of overseas Chinese scholars, the

convention will provide 4-5 days of hotel, all meals and transportations, except

international air tickets, to the invited participants.

The CSA, CAST-CA (LA) and PUAASC strongly support their members to attend the

convention and call for potential projects. We also plan to jointly organize a

delegation group consisting of the Southern California Chinese scholars who will

attend the Fifth convention. Creating the group will facilitate the information

sharing among the participants and get extra benefits as a group. If you have a

plan to attend the convention and are interested in join in the group, please

send your project information filled in a form downloadable from

http://pku.org/appendix/Guangzhou-form.doc by 9/30/02 to Lihong Yang

(Lihongya@usc.edu, 323-733-7685) for PUAASC members. If you have problem to open

a Chinese file, please let Mr. Yang know, and he will send a fax to you.

For more updating information and application forms, you may go to the

convention website: http://www.ocs-gz.gov.cnto download them and send the

corresponding information to the coordinators of each association, we will

submit all applicants information to Guangzhou together.
