Dear alumni,
We informed you of the story of Mr. Jianhong Hu, a PKU alumnus who is now
suffering from kidney failure and infection in the lungs due to immune system
suppression, in our last newsletter (http://pku.org/pages/news.php?id=230).
We just got additional information on this, including the direct and quick
donation way as below.
You can view two photos of Jianhong battling the disease at

Dear CSSA members,
We are writing this letter to call on an urgent donation for one of our dear
fellows, Hu, Jianhong, a postdoc in Duke who is suffering from kidney failure
and infection in the lungs due to immune system suppression. We are calling on
this urgent donation for him because his financial resourses is limited. He is
in need of our help to save his life. (Please see cssa-duke:
http://www.duke.edu/web/cssa/bulletin/blogger.html
Jianhong was born in Zhejiang province. He received his bachelor's degree in
biology at Peking University in 1997 and Ph.D in Vermont University. He started
working in Duke Biology dept last fall as a postdoc. Shortly after, he was
diagnosed with kidney failure by Duke Hospital. Since the waiting list in US for
kidney transplant is apparently very long, he decided to go back to China.
Jianhong returned to China for a kidney transplant this spring. Although he
received a kidney, there have been complications. Because his immune system was
suppressed to accept the new kidney, he soon caught infection in the lung. This
sent him back into the emergency room. He is a little better right now but still
in very dangerous condition.
Jianhong is now in intensive care. The local medical system is such that
Jianhong must pay for treatment in advance on a daily basis. There is a real
danger that, if he cannot make the payments, he will not receive the treatment
he needs. The situation is apparently so dangerous that Zhengzheng, his wife,
went to China in a hurry two weeks ago. Jianhong and Zhengzheng have a young
daughter. The daily medical bill of over RMB 10000 will exhaust the family
financially, physically and mentally.
If you want to help, please contact with Han Peng (Jianhong's monitor in PKU) or
Yingchun Lu (Jianhong's classmate in PKU, who currently works as a postdoc in
UCLA). Please make your check payable to Han Peng and send it to:
Han Peng
3475 Ravinia Circle,
Aurora, IL 60504.
Han Peng will leave for China on Oct. 2. He can wire the money to Hu Jianhong's
family, which is a faster way. So it'll be better if you can mail the check
before Sep. 20th. After Sept. 20th, donation can be delivered to Duke. Also
please email Han Peng or call him so he knows there's a check coming. Any amount
will help. Time = life for Jianhong
