As we are preparing for the New Year, the 2003 Classical Vocal Music Concert -
Joy of Spring, organized by Amsino International Inc. and co-hosted by the
Peking University Alumni Association of Southern California (PUAASC), will be
performed on January 5, 2003, to bring hope and happiness to all of us. This
concert invites several famous Chinese sopranos, including Lan Rao and Ping
Ding, to exhibit their superb performance. As the best Chinese sopranos, these
artists receive many awards in different international competitions. The
concert will be held in the Herbert Zipper Concert Hall at the Colburn School
of Performance Arts, a professional stage for vocal performance. We cordially
invite you and your family to join us for the wonderful concert.

Brief Bio of Major Performers
RAO, LAN
A top soloist in China, LAN RAO has performed with many world-renowned
orchestras such as the Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin, Royal Philharmonic
Orchestra Vlaanderen (Belgium), Lincoln Orchestra (USA), String Orchestra from
Russia, Central Philharmonic Peking, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. She
already has various CD records with with ARTE NOVA (BMG), WERGO and SALTO
RECORDS with songs from C. Schumann, F. Schubert, F. Hensel-Mendelssohn, J,
Brahms, C. K�hnls and many other composers. During her studies in Germany, she
won several international competitions, including first prize in the Lieder
competition in Vienna and the singer's development prize "German Lied" in
Frankfurt/Main.
Lan Rao's repertoire ranges from baroque to late romanticism. For the past
years she has been very successful in singing music of the 20th century as well
as traditional and modern Chinese compositions. Her technical knowledge and
interpretation gave her the possibility to premiere many works, some of which
were dedicated especially to her.
