Abstract:
The second SIT (Seminar on Information Technology) series is
co-sponsored by CAST-LA and Peking University Alumni Association
of Southern California and features two guest speakers on IT
in financial market in US and China. Dr. Chen will share us with
the bird's-eye view of China banking and financial software
systems from his expertise, while Dr. Jack C. Pan will discuss
bolts and nuts of smart cards and mobile commerce technology in
financial information systems.
Biographies:
Dr. Chen is the professor of Computer Sciences Department at
Peking University and the visiting professor at UCLA. He is
the co-founder and CTO of the Jadebird Group. In the domain
of banking and finance, he was a senior consultant to Asia
Development Bank, People's Bank of China, China Construction
Bank, and China Securities Regulation Committee. He has made
substantial contributions to projects that established China's
National Payment System, Regional Payment System, Securities
Trading System, Securities Trade Monitoring System, and
Regional Finance Network Security.
Dr. Pan has over twenty years of industry and academic
experiences. His experiences range from digital image processing,
handwriting recognition, neural networks, and object-oriented
programming to smart card and E-commerce/M-commerce technologies.
Most recently, he was responsible for Citibank's Chip Card Architecture
and Solutions Management over the corporate and consumer spaces.
Starting June, 2002, he will take on a new position as Program Director,
Chip Implementation for Visa International, Asia Pacific. Dr. Pan
received his undergraduate degree in Electronics Engineering from
National Chiao-Tung University, Hsin-Chu, Taiwan and his Ph.D. degree
in Electrical/Computer Engineering from the University of Southern
California.

Freeway North, exit on Wilshire Blvd East. Proceed east on Wilshire
Blvd and turn left on Westwood Blvd. Drive all the way up into the
