PUAASC Launched Alumni Mentoring Program

Dear alumni and friends:
As you are probably aware that many top US universities like Stanford and Harvard boast a powerful and appealing mentoring program. We, Peking University Alumni Association of Southern California, are striving hard to launch a similar program to enhance the academic, professional and personal experience of our Junior members.
The mission of our program is:
1. To connect mentors and mentees and expand the networking for all members.
2. To open a new channel for our junior members to seek advices on adjustment to the new continent and career advancement. Be it academically or professionally.
3. To inspire a community of mentors dedicated to fostering growth and development spanning multiple generations of members.
We are currently working on the nuts and bolts of the matching process, the mentoring process and tracking process. Meanwhile, we are actively recruiting alumni and friends who are willing to share the experience and to participate in the pilot program as a mentor. We believe this is a truly meaningful program and we are reaching out to you to pledge for your support.
We are fully aware of your hectic schedule. So we will limit in-person meetings and also encourage the mentees to use email or phone for specific questions. So it does not necessarily mean that you have to allocate a significant chunk of time for this mentoring program.
As it said, it is better to give than to receive. You will find it is a fulfilling and rewarding experience. One of the things we learned in this country is to take personal responsibilities. It is our responsibility to contribute back and to inspire our junior members. On the other hand, it is also a privilege and an opportunity for you. As a mentor, you can benefit from the expanded networking and the volunteer experience. You may even develop a long lasting experience that you and the mentee will cherish for the whole life! Remember, you will be part of the mentee’s success and feel your power to make a difference!
